contents
Groundwater remains one of the most dependable sources of freshwater for households, agriculture, and industry. However, growing scarcity has raised concerns about its long-term availability and quality. This paper examines the drivers and consequences of groundwater depletion and explores practical approaches for sustaining this resource. Drawing on recent studies and reports, the review identifies how poor management, population growth, and climate variability have placed increasing pressure on aquifers, making them less reliable for potable and domestic use. The discussion highlights four key areas for tackling scarcity: strengthening groundwater sustainability practices, implementing effective monitoring systems, applying advanced technical methods, and supporting evidence-based decision-making. By integrating these approaches, the study emphasizes that groundwater resources can be managed more effectively to meet present needs while safeguarding future supply.
