| contents | <p>The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of self-promotion, ingratiation, and exemplification on the job performance of lecturers in Universities in Edo State. The study employed a correlational survey research design. Its population comprised 3,002 academic staff in the selected Universities. The questionnaire served as the primary research instrument. Data collected from the online questionnaire were analysed by descriptive statistics (such as mean, standard deviation, and percentages) and inferential statistics through the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) It revealed that there was a positive and significant relationship between self-promotion and job performance of the academics; there was a negative and non-significant relationship between ingratiation and job performance of the academics; there was a positive and significant relationship between exemplification and job performance of the academics. It concluded that there was a need for the university to emphasise the issues that significantly impact the job performance of academics. Recommendations such as professional development programmes, ethical and constructive impression management behaviours, and regular feedback mechanisms, among others, were provided.</p> |
