| contents | <p><span lang="EN-GB">Lesya Ukrainka (1871-1913) borrows from Heine the idea of music capable of overcoming distance. Inspired by one of her poems from Schumann’s “Wanderlied” (based on a text by Kerner), she thus makes the songs of her native country the only spiritual baggage capable of accompanying the exile; and, elaborating further in one of her stories on the “Ich grolle nicht” from <em>The Poet's Love, </em>she makes Schumann’s<em> Lied</em> an instance capable of <span>reducing the gap between the unspeakable and the spoken, between the subconscious and the conscious, between the present moment of remembrance and the past moment of what is remembered. Nevertheless, the poetics of depth, the subconscious </span>and <span>the unspeakable </span>that<span> she thus develops also reveal the danger of surrendering to Schumann’s music, which appears to be a deceptive form in which a passion that destroys all forms slips in.</span></span></p> <p> </p> <p><span lang="EN-GB">Publication part of the SNF project GENDUKR</span></p> |
