In it, Tholkappiar has stated 53 rules for ‘Karppiyal’ that deal with love and relationships between the hero (Thalaivan) and the beloved (Thalaivi). Thiruvalluvar has attempted to express the messages conveyed by Tholkappiyar's Karppiyal through 180 couplets in his Thirukkural. It is notable that Valluvar, while incorporating the essence of Tholkappiyar's Karppiyal ideas, has presented them under various new adikarams.</span></em><em><span> While expressing the marital love life of the leader, the male protagonist (thalaivan) who marries the female protagonist (thalaivi) would engage in communication with the beloved, her friend (thozhi) and the intermediary person (pagan) who helps him. They are quite interesting and have moral insights in them. The hero has a moral dilemma and has come to a final point to marry his beloved in front of the people to fulfil his promise to his beloved. In this context, the article explores a comparison between the portrayal of Thalaivan’s speech (the hero’s expressions) from Tholkappiyar and Thiruvalluvar within the perspective of Karppiyal tradition</span></em><span>.</span></p> |
