- <p>Incorporating the Internet of Things (IoT) in environmental monitoring has transformed the <br>administration and monitoring of water resources. Distributed network is used to collect the <br>Real-time and continuous data from sensors based on IoT systems which is used for better <br>decision-making towards the use of sustainable water. This paper performs a systematic review <br>of current publications on water quality monitoring systems based on IoT. To identify <br>technological trends, design protocols, and implementation challenges thirteen research works <br>are analysed. The summary outlines the evolution of sensor technologies, IoT architectures, <br>integrated systems and communication networks that enable reliable and efficient water <br>monitoring. Despite unprecedented advances, there remain issues that remain constant in <br>calibration, data consistency, and long-field deployment performance. Further studies must <br>concentrate on scalability, interoperability, and sustainably deployable practices to enable IoT<br>based monitoring systems to be deployed in a range of environmental contexts. <br>Keywords Internet of Things (IoT), water quality monitoring, communication technologies, <br>environmental monitoring, embedded systems, sensors. </p>
