| contents | <p>Abstract</p> <p> </p> <p>Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) and vitamin B12-deficiency anemia remain two of the most widespread blood disorders affecting people across all age groups and socioeconomic backgrounds. These anemias reduce the blood’s oxygen-carrying capacity, disturb cellular metabolism, and can severely impact physical performance, mental clarity, and overall well-being. While both share the common feature of low hemoglobin, their underlying mechanisms and treatment approaches differ significantly. </p> <p> </p> <p>This article provides a comprehensive overview of the causes, clinical presentation, and diagnostic workup of IDA and vitamin B12-deficiency anemia, with a special focus on evidence-based pharmacological management. It discusses the role of ionic (ferrous) and non-ionic (ferric) iron preparations, including their mechanisms, dosage regimens, safety profiles, and clinical indications, in alignment with international treatment guidelines such as those from the World Health Organization (WHO) and NICE</p> <p> </p> <p>Emphasis is placed on choosing the right therapeutic formulation for each patient, optimizing absorption and adherence, and monitoring treatment response to ensure both efficacy and safety. Ultimately, the article underscores that early recognition and individualized therapy not only restore hematological balance but also prevent long-term complications, improving patients’ quality of life.</p> |
