•
With this dissertation, we will examine the power of artificial intelligence (A.I.) to

monitor one's carbon footprint and its ability to change consumer behavior regarding the

environment towards sustainable practices throughout the supply chain. Combining personal

storytelling and an analysis of the industry with concrete data, the research seeks to answer the

question: Can artificial intelligence track carbon footprint, and reshape consumer perception and

behavior, promoting sustainable consumption practices in the supply chain?

The research findings underline that consuming a product enhanced with A.I. Carbon

tracking would make consumers more conscious of their behavior about the product in question

due to the availability of information on the range of carbon emissions generated every time a

product is purchased and its use over time. In addition, artificial intelligence can be incorporated

into the business model of consumers and offer products and services for every strategic point of

the consumers' decision-making process. Nevertheless, the purchase behavior and eventually a

change, are determined by the population's demographic characteristics concerning the

sustainability outcomes these applications aim at, especially concerning the cultural aspects and

socioeconomic factors.

This thesis advances the view that A.I.'s capacity to change people's consumption

patterns or organizations' practices toward corporate social responsibility is feasible. However,

technical aspects, regulation, socioeconomics, and availability will influence its progress. To this

end, A.I. is potentially a game changer in solving the world's environmental issues by changing

how consumption occurs today and in the future.
