| contents | <p>This dissertation was conducted at the <em>Hellenic Center for Emotions (Ελληνικό Κέντρο Συναισθημάτων)</em>, as part of the <em>Short-Term Synthetic Counselling (Expansion) Program</em> under the supervision of Argyris S. Mardas, creator of the Expansion Approach.</p> <p>The dissertation examines occupational burnout in Greece’s tourism sector through international and Greek literature and proposes a practical intervention using the brief, integrative counseling approach, Expansion. First, the main theoretical models of the phenomenon are presented, along with its antecedents and consequences for employees and organizations. It then focuses on the specific features of Greek tourism and draws on international data for the sector, highlighting the need for systematic psychosocial risk assessment and the strengthening of organizational resources. Evidence-based approaches to addressing burnout are briefly outlined, and the application of the Expansion approach in the tourism context is proposed. The proposal outlines a multilevel intervention (individual and group) aligned with the Job Demands-Resources (JD-R) model—reducing demands, increasing resources, transforming limiting beliefs, and reconnecting with authentic roles and values. Overall, it bridges theory and practice for the prevention and management of burnout in Greek tourism and provides directions for organizational change and future research.</p> |
