| contents | <p>This paper presents a privacy-preserving system for border crossing and inspection composed of two Android applications: the Pre-Registration App and the Border Guard<br>App. The system enables travelers to manage their trips, precapture document data and biometrics on their own devices, and perform on-device quality and verification checks before securely transmitting this information to the Border Guard App via a peer-to-peer (P2P) channel. The Pre-Registration App supports Machine Readable Zone (MRZ) scanning, Near Field Communication (NFC) passport chip reading, Open Face Image Quality (OFIQ) assessment, Single and Differential Morphing Attack Detection (S-MAD and D-MAD), face similarity verification using the FaceNet algorithm, and a European Blockchain Services Infrastructure (EBSI) verifiable credential (VC) that can later be verified by border authorities. Communication between the two apps occurs via WiFi Direct after a Quick Response (QR) code handshake, ensuring that no personal data is transmitted before arrival at the Border Control Point (BCP). The Border Guard App performs additional biometric matching and document authentication and presents the verification results along with the traveler’s passport information to the border guard for final inspection. The key outcome is that the system reduces waiting<br>times at BCPs through pre-arrival registration and enables better personnel management through expected arrival tracking.</p> |
