| contents | <p><span lang="EN-GB">This dataset was created as part of the project ‘Rise and Fall of Transhumance in Iceland, AD 800-1800’ (TransIce). The project was funded by the Icelandic Research Fund (IRF – <em>Rannís)</em>. It is part of the work carried out in work package 1. The dataset was produced and analysed in order to create the first overview of the shieling system in Iceland and to identify any regional variations in the system.</span></p> <p><span lang="EN-GB">The dataset features shapefiles (points) that mark the location of shielings, farms, PCA (peat cutting areas), charcoal pits, and shepherd’s houses in Iceland.</span></p> <p><span lang="EN-GB">Please note that not all areas of Iceland have been surveyed. A map inside the ZIP file provides an indication of the number of surveyed sites from Ísleif in each county. The darker the blue colour is on the map, the more sites have been surveyed in that county.</span></p> <p><span lang="EN-GB">For explanation of specific terms (e.g. private property; shieling) see the CSV file (TransIce_</span> <span lang="EN-GB">vocabulary.csv) attached in the ZIP file.</span></p> <p><span lang="EN-GB">Spatial coverage: Iceland.<br>Temporal coverage: 10<sup>th</sup>-20<sup>th</sup> century CE.<br>Coordinate system: ISN93 (EPSG:3057).<br>License: Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International.</span><span lang="EN-GB"><br>Version: 1.0<br>Suggestive citation: Helgason, G., & Júlíusson, Á.D.J.
