contents
This preprint, titled “The Algorithmic Trap of TikTok,” explores how TikTok’s persuasive design strategies engage and potentially over-engage adolescent users. Drawing from recent psychological and media research (2018–2022), the paper reviews key mechanisms such as algorithmic curation, social validation, emotional triggers, and persuasive interface design. The findings highlight how TikTok’s short-form content and recommendation systems foster continuous engagement and reinforce habitual use among youth. The review concludes that while the platform promotes creativity and social connection, its design simultaneously exploits developmental vulnerabilities, raising concerns for attention, well-being, and digital wellness among adolescents. This work is accepted for publication in the Curieux Academic Journal
