-
Inspired by my encounters with the Great Southern landscape in Western Australia, my work explores the layers of time embedded within the geological formations of granites. Weaving the paths in the Wagyl Kaip transposes my experience of walking and engaging with the ancient landscape while capturing the tactile experiences of place. I am especially interested in the concept of deep time, seeing the land’s history through the lens of geology, anthropology, and Indigenous knowledge and perspective. Through creative practice, utilising photography, printmaking, 3D scanning, and drawing I engage with the materiality of place and gradually unravel their entangled complexities and hidden meanings - layers of local history and geological data. The experiential knowledge of place gained through an active engagement with the sites is then translated into an artwork that aim to emulate the close connectivity of the body and place fleshing out the place’s tactility and highlighting its importance. The book is a result of exploring the landscape features through a technological lens - the images derive from 3D scans of rocks and formations which are further manipulated and translated into woodcuts.

Exhibited
UNFOLD | IOTA24 Curated by Kristy Scaddan Midland Junction Arts Centre | 14 September - 17 November 2024
