contents
This technical report presents a comprehensive analysis of the current state of innovation and entrepreneurship in digital health across Spanish-speaking countries in Latin America and the Caribbean. Through a systematic review of published literature and grey literature, the study examines the availability, quality, and characteristics of existing evidence on digital health innovation ecosystems, as well as the methodologies used to map them. Findings reveal a significant scarcity of high-quality bibliographic sources, an almost complete absence of Spanish-language publications in major academic databases, and limited methodological definitions for identifying actors, relationships, and maturity levels within these ecosystems. The report also highlights isolated efforts, lack of standardization in analytical approaches, and an overreliance on international reports that address the topic only tangentially. Overall, the study underscores the urgent need for more rigorous research, standardized methodologies, and multisectoral collaborations to strengthen digital health innovation ecosystems and enhance their impact on health systems throughout the region.
