contents
This literature review explores the multifaceted perspectives on the implementation and impacts of artificial intelligence (AI) in higher education, specifically within Nigerian universities. While existing literature presents valuable insights into the potential benefits and challenges of AI integration in educational settings, there is significant variability in the quality and depth of these reviews. Most studies emphasize important implications for enhancing educational outcomes but often lack empirical evidence to substantiate their claims. Furthermore, the literature tends to fall short in offering actionable solutions to the challenges posed by AI adoption and in addressing the ethical considerations inherent to its implementation. This review identifies critical gaps in the current discourse, suggesting that a more robust examination of empirical data, alongside detailed analyses of the obstacles encountered during AI integration, is essential. Additionally, a focused exploration of ethical issues such as data privacy, algorithmic bias, and the digital divide would enrich the understanding of AI’s role in education. By addressing these shortcomings, future research could provide a more comprehensive framework for understanding how AI can be effectively leveraged to enhance teaching and learning in Nigerian universities. Overall, this review underscores the need for a balanced approach that incorporates both innovative applications of AI and careful consideration of the broader implications for educators and students alike.
