| contents | <p>It has been four decades since the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) <br>was identified as the causative agent of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS). <br>Since then, scientists have been working on the mechanisms of HIV. In light of this, the <br>research sought to trace a timeline of the evolution of antiretroviral treatments <br>provided in Brazil, with the aim of analyzing the path to date and what the prospects <br>are for the future. It was concluded that, with advances in HIV treatment, patients now <br>have a better prognosis and quality of life compared to the beginning of the pandemic. <br>However, when analyzing the overall picture, it is observed that it is still necessary to <br>develop new therapeutic approaches, especially to achieve the definitive eradication <br>of HIV.</p> |
