contents <p><b><i>Oxynoemacheilus pantheroides</i></b></p><p><b>Common name.</b> Golan loach.</p><p><b>Diagnosis.</b> Distinguished from other species of <i>Oxynoemacheilus</i> in southern Levant by: ○ caudal deeply emarginate / ○ no prominent dorsal crest on caudal peduncle / ○ suborbital groove present in male / ○ lateral line usually incomplete, terminating between vertical of dorsal- and anal base / ○ back and flank densely covered by scales. Size up to 60 mm SL, likely to grow larger.</p><p><b>Distribution.</b> Israel: Upper Jordan drainage, possibly also in upper reaches of Jordan in Lebanon.</p><p><b>Habitat.</b> Standing and slow-flowing waters of springs and streams with mud or gravel bottoms.</p><p><b>Biology.</b> No data.</p><p><b>Conservation status.</b> NE; due to very limited knowledge of this species.</p><p><b>Remarks. <i>Oxynoemacheilus doriae</i></b> from Israel may be an additional valid species, and further research is needed to test this hypothesis.</p><p><b>Further reading.</b> Bănărescu et al. 1982 (description); Krupp & Schneider 1989 (synonym of <i>O. insignis</i>).</p>
