contents <p>Each human participant took part in two experimental sessions, separated by approximately one week. In both sessions, “physiological parameters—heart rate and heart rate variability—were recorded using a Polar H10 heart rate monitor for both the handler and the dog” (Grigg et al., 2022).<br>The two sessions involved: a brief mindfulness practice and a subsequent control activity such as reading or neutral conversation. After a five-minute acclimatisation phase in the test room, each human–dog pair performed three consecutive sets of dog manipulation exercises, separated by two-minute intervals. The first two sets took place under neutral conditions, while a verbal stress factor was introduced in the third set to slightly increase the handler's level of emotional arousal.<br>The analysed physiological variables included mean heart rate, heart rate variability, and high-frequency power, the latter used as an indicator of parasympathetic nervous system activity, see Figure 1 (Grigg et al., 2022).</p>
