| contents |
This study is a descriptive field–laboratory research aimed at evaluating the soil fertility status in the Subak Selumbung area, Manggis District, Karangasem Regency, Bali Province, an agricultural region that highly depends on the sustainability of soil functions. The objectives of this study were to assess soil fertility based on key chemical properties, identify fertility-limiting factors, and formulate recommendations for sustainable land management. Soil samples were collected through field surveys and analyzed in the Soil Chemistry Laboratory to determine several chemical parameters, including Cation Exchange Capacity (CEC), Base Saturation (BS), organic carbon (C-organic), total phosphorus (P-total), and total potassium (K-total). The results showed that CEC ranged from 21.87 to 28.07 me/100 g (moderate to high), BS was very high (81.89–99.01%), organic carbon content was low to moderate, while total P and K levels were high to very high. Based on these indicators, soil fertility in Selumbung was classified into two categories: high (SLH II, III, IV, and VI) and moderate (SLH I and V). The main limiting factor was the low organic matter content associated with reduced biological activity. To address this constraint, the application of organic fertilizers (compost, manure, and green manure), balanced NPK fertilization, and the implementation of soil and water conservation practices such as terracing, cover cropping, and surface water regulation are recommended. Spatial mapping using a Geographic Information System (GIS) also revealed variations in fertility levels among land units, providing a scientific basis for sustainable agricultural land management in the Karangasem region.
|
