- <p>The apparent 200,000-year gap between the Chicxulub impact and the K-Pg mass extinction, rigorously documented by Keller et al., has been cited as evidence against direct causal connection. This preprint proposes an alternative interpretation: the gap may reflect the duration of impact-triggered Deccan volcanism (from initiation to peak lethality) rather than a delay in causation.</p> <p>Analysis of Large Igneous Province (LIP) eruption patterns reveals a consistent multi-pulse structure in both Deccan and Siberian Traps: a massive initial pulse containing 70-80% of total volume, followed by smaller secondary pulses. This pattern distinguishes impact-triggered LIPs from regular plume volcanism.</p> <p>Using the "Shroud of Turin analogy," we demonstrate how measuring different phases of a multi-stage volcanic event can yield misleading temporal separations. The work presents testable geochemical, geochronological, and geometric predictions, and calls for collaborative integration of empirical measurements with mechanistic frameworks to resolve this decades-long controversy.</p> <p>This research forms part of Proyecto A.D.A.
