| contents | <p>This paper examines Article 6 of the Paris Agreement as a critical framework for enhancing international climate collaboration through both market-based and non-market mechanisms. It provides a structured analysis of the three pillars of Article 6—voluntary cooperation via Internationally Transferred Mitigation Outcomes (Article 6.2), the Sustainable Development Mechanism (Article 6.4), and Non-Market Approaches (Article 6.8)—highlighting their roles in supporting countries to achieve and strengthen their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).</p> <p>The study explores the operational design, governance requirements, and implementation challenges associated with these mechanisms, including issues related to accounting integrity, measurement, reporting and verification (MRV), political coordination, and economic feasibility. It further emphasizes the importance of integrating non-market approaches into national climate strategies, particularly in areas such as technology transfer, capacity building, and policy coherence.</p> <p>By identifying both constraints and opportunities, the paper demonstrates how effective application of Article 6 can accelerate global climate action while simultaneously supporting sustainable development, innovation, and economic resilience. The findings contribute to ongoing policy and academic discussions on international climate governance and cooperative approaches under the Paris Agreement.</p> <p><br><br></p> |
