contents
Classical and relativistic descriptions of gravity continue to rely, implicitly or explicitly, on spatial intuitions of direction—most notably the notion of “downward” motion under a gravitational pull. While such descriptions are operationally effective, they obscure the deeper structural ordering governing motion. This paper presents a refined structural interpretation in which gravity is not treated as a force acting along a privileged spatial axis, but as a manifestation of a temporal ordering constraint: a structural timing gradient that governs how admissible paths unfold forward in time. Within this framework, spatial directionality is emergent rather than fundamental, arising secondarily from boundary conditions and configuration constraints. Time’s arrow constitutes the sole intrinsic asymmetry. Motion under gravity is therefore understood as progression along temporally ordered admissible paths, with acceleration reflecting the steepness of the timing gradient rather than a pulling force. This reinterpretation resolves persistent ambiguities surrounding direction, force, and descent, and establishes a necessary structural foundation for later work on levity as a constrained modification of admissible temporal continuations rather than an oppositional or force-based phenomenon.
