These movements are linked to confidence in the power of reason, support the idea that education is subject to laws that can be mentally mastered and manipulated. This kind of mentality can already be recognized in J. A. Komensky. In the following, we show the influence of the Enlightenment pedagogical movements on state interventions in the organization of mass education and the constitution of the teaching profession. Here, we pay special attention to the teacher’s character, as imagined by Ignaz von Felbiger, Joseph von Sonnenfels, and Johann Ignaz von Felbiger, as well as to the Slovenian theologian Blaž Kumerdej’s idea of improving the situation of education and teachers, which was highly advanced at that time</p> |
