contents
Artificial intelligence (AI) is reshaping many fields, including library and information science (LIS). This paper highlights how AI technologies, such as machine learning (ML), natural language processing (NLP), expert systems, robotics, recommendation systems, and intelligent agents, are being used to improve service delivery, resource management, user experience, and decision-making in libraries. We review empirical and theoretical studies, analyse challenges (ethical, technical, and human), and discuss future directions. Key findings indicate that while AI offers enormous opportunities for efficiency, personalization, and innovation in libraries, its adoption and integration remain uneven due to resource constraints, lack of expertise, ethical concerns, and structural problems. The findings suggest best practices and areas for further research.
