This article examines the fundamental geological processes that govern hydrocarbon formation and entrapment within sedimentary basins, with particular emphasis on basin evolution, source rock maturation, and structural controls on petroleum accumulation. By integrating stratigraphic, tectonic, and geochemical perspectives, the study highlights the interconnected nature of geological mechanisms that shape hydrocarbon systems and determine their spatial and temporal distribution.
