| contents | <p><span lang="EN-US">This study explored the work life of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) agents which specifically delved into the experiences of the informants, how the informants addressed the challenges encountered and the aspirations of the informants to improve the performance of their duties. This study is a qualitative type of research using the phenomenological approach that utilized ten (10) informants from the PDEA Bohol Provincial Office in Tagbilaran City, using a validated interview guide with open-ended questions prepared by the researcher. The informants were all interviewed individually. Colaizzi’s analysis was used to analyze the data collected. Three themes summarized the positive experiences of the informants, namely: Disrupting Drug Activities, Sense of Accomplishment, and Strong Organizational Support System. As to the negative experiences, the themes revealed were Life-Endangering Threats, Work-Related Struggles and Setbacks, and Pressure of Uncertainty. The themes Strategic Work Balance, Strengthening Intelligence Gathering, and Resilience and Strong Determination highlighted addressing the challenges encountered. Moreover, the themes: Career Advancement and Enhanced Compensation and Resources, described their aspirations. The PDEA should be empowered to be more effective in combatting drug problem by enhancing their training programs, improve agents' welfare, and increase financial support for the agency’s operations.</span></p> |
