-
The transition from a linear economic model—characterised by “take-makedispose”—to a circular economy (CE) presents a paradigm shift in modern waste management. This research explores how CE principles enhance sustainability by minimising waste, conserving resources, and closing material loops across sectors. It critically examines theoretical frameworks, policy drivers, technological enablers, and implementation challenges, supported by global case studies. The study seeks to answer: How can circular economy strategies optimise waste management systems to support sustainable development goals? Findings demonstrate that integrating CE into waste management can significantly reduce environmental impacts, create economic value, and foster resilient socio-ecological systems, but requires systemic governance, stakeholder cooperation, and innovative financing.
