-
ZEB8 is a persistence-based statistical alert protocol designed to identify non-random, spatially coherent structure embedded within high-entropy datasets. The protocol operates by aggressively destroying structure through multiple null-model controls while preserving global statistics, then measuring whether any residual organization survives this destruction beyond statistical expectation.
At its core, ZEB8 distinguishes between two operational states:
Universal Host — a null hypothesis ensemble generated via shuffled, phase-randomized, or Gaussianized controls that preserve mean, variance, and power spectrum while eliminating internal coherence.
Biological Event — any structure in the decoded data that survives these controls and exhibits statistically significant persistence across spatial scales.
The protocol applies a scale-constrained persistence filter that suppresses short-lived, high-frequency fluctuations without injecting artificial structure or altering global amplitudes. Validation is performed through entropy reduction metrics, variance preservation checks, and guarded z-score comparisons against multiple independent null models.
ZEB8 includes explicit safeguards against false positives, including:
Phase-randomized controls to reject frequency-only artifacts,
Degenerate-control detection to prevent inflated z-scores from near-zero variance,
Spike and point-source calibration tests to identify non-astrophysical interference.
An alert is triggered only when the decoded structure exceeds predefined thresholds (e.g., z₍phase₎ > 5.0) while remaining below artifact-dominated regimes.
Although initially developed and validated using simulated cosmological data, ZEB8 is domain-agnostic and extensible to:
Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) analysis,
Large-scale structure maps,
Geophysical and oceanographic fields,
General image and time-series persistence detection problems.
The protocol is designed for external replication, with fixed parameters, reproducible seeds, and clearly defined breakdown points. ZEB8 does not assert physical causation; it provides a statistically rigorous method for detecting persistence-optimized structure where standard analyses assume randomness.
