- <p>In this submission, ACOSS proposes Budget measures to:</p> <p><span><span>·<span> </span></span></span>Support self-determination and lift living conditions in First Nations communities;</p> <p><span><span>·<span> </span></span></span>Strengthen the revenue base and incentivise productive investment;</p> <p><span><span>·<span> </span></span></span>Pursue full employment and reduce long-term unemployment;</p> <p><span><span>·<span> </span></span></span>Improve the quality, sustainability and availability of social services;</p> <p><span><span>·<span> </span></span></span>Address gaps in the safety net, including benchmarking social security payments to a liveable minimum standard;</p> <p><span><span>·<span> </span></span></span>Improve energy affordability and reduce climate emissions, with a focus on the lowest income households;</p> <p><span><span>·<span> </span></span></span>Increase the availability of social housing and improve protections and affordability for those in private rental properties;</p> <p><span><span>·<span> </span></span></span>Improve the affordability of health care, including by addressing high out-of-pocket costs; and</p> <p><span><span>·<span> </span></span></span>Improve individual and community resilience to disasters and extreme weather.</p>
