| contents |
This paper proposes an evolutionary-hierarchical classification of autonomous systems based on their modes of adaptation to the environment. Five levels are identified: elementary devices (fixed algorithms, adaptation through generational change), adaptive devices (algorithm selection through trial and error during the lifetime), reflexive devices (a priori algorithm selection before action, self-modeling), reasoning devices (learning, culture, language as meta-program), and intellectual devices (generation of new social programs). The classification reveals the logic of evolutionary development of cognitive activity independently of biological substrate.
|
