Gender masculine].</p><p><b>Diagnosis</b> (after Ahyong 2012). Eye subcylindrical, cornea not broader than stalk in dorsal view. Ocular scales small, narrower than basal width of median spine of rostral plate, usually rounded dorsally. Rostral plate with slender median spine and short, broad, trapezoid basal portion.Anterolateral margins of carapace convex, extending anteriorly beyond base of rostral plate. Mandibular palp present. Propodus of raptorial claw with proximal movable spine in adults. Telson with 3 or 5 mid-dorsal carinae; IM carina of telson without accessory longitudinal carina on mesial margin; anus located ventrally. Uropodal protopod without lobes between terminal spines; endopod without spines on inner margin.</p><p><b>Composition.</b> <i>Gonodactylellus annularis</i> Erdmann & Manning, 1998; <i>G. affinis</i> (de Man, 1902); <i>G. barberi</i> Ahyong & Erdmann, 2007; <i>G. bicarinatus</i> (Manning, 1968a); <i>G. caldwelli</i> Erdmann & Manning, 1998; <i>G. celosinus</i> Ahyong, 2024; <i>G. choprai</i> (Manning, 1967b); <b><i>G. crosnieri</i> (Manning, 1968a)</b>; <i>G. demanii</i> (Henderson, 1893); <i>G. dianae</i> Ahyong, 2008; <i>G. erdmanni</i> Ahyong, 2001; <i>G. espinosus</i> (Borradaile, 1898); <i>G. incipiens</i> (Lanchester, 1903); <i>G. kandi</i> Ahyong & Erdmann, 2007; <i>G. kume</i> Ahyong, 2012; <b><i>G. lanchesteri</i> (Manning, 1967b)</b>; <i>G. micronesicus</i> (Manning, 1971a); <i>G. molyneux</i> Ahyong, 2001; <i>G. osheai</i> Ahyong, 2012; <i>G. rubriguttatus</i> Erdmann & Manning, 1998; <i>G. sentosa</i> Ahyong, 2016; <i>G. snidvongsi</i> (Naiyanetr, 1987); <i>G. spinosus</i> (Bigelow, 1893); <i>G. spiridonovi</i> Ahyong, 2021b; <i>G. viridis</i> (Serène, 1954). Currently 25 species comprise the genus of which two are known from South Africa: <i>G. crosnieri</i> and <i>G. lanchesteri</i>.</p><p><b>Remarks.</b> Two small species of <i>Gonodactylellus</i> are found in the coastal waters of northern KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.
