•
This research investigates the need to prioritize the professional development of teachers for the effective
application of task-based language learning at Gambella University. Although the pedagogical advantages
offered by TBLT are strong, the effective implementation of the theory requires the knowledge, skills, and
confidence of the instructors regarding the application of the tasks. An approach could include the analysis
of the current state, such as the design, theory, or implementation of the tasks. This was achieved using the
quantitative approach in analyzing the results of the study by interpreting the opinions of the five participants
on the importance of the application at Gambella University. The findings of the study reveal that the
prioritization of teachers’ professional development is highly necessary for the successful application of
Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) at Gambella University. The study also identified that the
application of the TBLT method has enormously fortified the confidence, autonomy, and active engagement
of the language learners. The findings are believed to make contributions to the informing of practices and
policies, emphasizing the idea that, based on the principles of constant and needs-based staff development,
there will be improvement in the quality of language learning instruction.
