| contents | <p><b>Genus <i>Cretoscraptella</i> Alekseev, Háva & Bukejs gen. nov.</b></p><p>Type species: <i>Cretoscraptella crucifera</i> <b>sp. nov</b>., designated herein</p><p><b>Diagnosis.</b> <i>Cretoscraptella</i> <b>gen. nov.</b> can be distinguished from all other described Allopodini genera of Recent (<i>Allopoda</i> LeConte, 1866; <i>Pectotoma</i> Hatch, 1965; and <i>Pseudoscraptia</i> Wollaston, 1868) by the following characters: distinctly smaller body size, narrow temples (in contrast to eye attaining posterior margin of head in <i>Allopoda</i> and eye separated by nearly the width of one eye from posterior margin of head in <i>Pectotoma</i>), comparatively short elytra (in contrast to elytra narrow and long, twice or more as long as wide in <i>Pectotoma, Allopoda</i> <b>or</b> <i>Pseudoscraptia</i>), filiform antennae (flabellate in male of Pectotoma), and not shortened last metatarsomere (in contrast to shortened last metatarsomere in <i>Pseudoscraptia</i>).</p><p>Among extinct genera of Scraptiidae, the new genus can be distinguished by smaller body size, 1.5 mm (<i>Scraptiomima</i> is 2.5–8.6 mm long, <i>Palaeoscraptia</i> is 2.0 mm long, <i>Archescraptia</i> is 4.3 mm long) and absence of lobed sements in metatarsi. <i>Cretoscraptella</i> <b>gen. nov.</b> differs from <i>Scraptiomima</i> in filiform antennae with elongate anennomeres (short, almost moniliform antenna with transverse antennomeres in <i>Scraptiomima</i>), in comparatively shorter tarsi and shorter tibial spurs.</p><p><b><i>Derivatio nominis</i>.</b> The name of the new genus is a compound word and combines the Creto- (referring to the Cretaceous age of the deposit), <i>Scraptia</i> (name of the type genus in the subfamily) and the Latin diminutive suffixella (referring to the small size of the fossil). Gender feminine.</p><p><b>Remarks.</b> The new genus is monotypic, represented by the type species only. Therefore the generic description considerably overlaps that of the species.</p> |
