  • The discharge of untreated greywater from ships, an uncounted sea-based source of microplastics (MPs), is a growing concern due to the lack of regulations on discharge except in some designated areas. However, empirical data on MPs from this source are currently limited. Here, the abundances and characteristics of MPs in greywater from different types of vessels (research vessel (R/V), container ship, and passenger ships) were investigated. Additionally, emissions of MPs were estimated from the greywater discharge of global transport ships. The mean abundance of MPs in greywater generated from R/V was 135,563 ± 87,141 n/m3. Fiber-type MPs accounted for 66 Also see: https://micro2024.sciencesconf.org/559312/document
