| contents | <p><span lang="EN-US">This article is devoted to the study of translation compensation and the context of its use. The concept of translation compensation was considered in detail, and it was determined which translation strategy this translation transformation is used as a part of. The most likely situations of compensation use were also mentioned. Compensation was presented as one of the means to recreate a pragmatic impact of an original text on the recipients of translation and, consequently, achieve an adequate result of adapting a text to the norms of the culture of the target language. Several literary texts were analyzed, and the specifics of using compensation to translate dialect units, illiterate speech, and culturally specific units were considered. The study highlighted the correlation between the high degree of specific units in a source text and the multiple use of compensation in translation.</span></p> |
