Fig. 11</p><p>Perennial, caespitose; culms 50–100 cm long, branching at the base, cataphylls pilose; internodes 12–22 cm long, cylindrical, hollow, glabrous; nodes compressed, dark, glabrous. <i>Sheaths</i> 10–17 cm long, shorter than the internodes, striate, sparsely pilose with whitish hairs to glabrous. <i>Ligule</i> membranous-ciliate, 1.5 mm long, membranous portion 0.5 mm long. <i>Blades</i> linear-lanceolate, 15–40 × 0.3–0.8 cm, flat, narrowed at the base, the apex acuminate, pilose toward the base, otherwise glabrous, midnerve manifest and the lower margins ciliate. <i>Inflorescence</i> a terminal, exserted, open and lax panicle, 15–40 × 10–25 cm; peduncle cylindrical, 15–20 cm long, glabrous; lower first-order branches whorled to alternate, the upper ones alternate, divergent, axis of the branches scabrous; spikelets solitary and dispersed on third-order branches, pedicels 2–9 mm long, scabrous. <i>Spikelets</i> ellipsoid, 4.8–5.2 × 1.3–1.5 mm, glabrous; <i>lower glume</i> 2.6–3.1 mm long, ½ to ¾ the length of the spikelet, ovate, acute, membranous, 5–7-nerved, the nerves anastomosing toward the apex; <i>upper glume</i> as long as the spikelet, 9-nerved, membranous, acuminate; <i>lower lemma</i> glumiform, 9-nerved; <i>lower palea</i> ovate, 3.0–4.0 × 1.2–1.3 mm or as long as the lower lemma, hyaline, glabrous; <i>lower flower</i> absent; <i>upper anthecium</i> ellipsoid, 3.5–4 × 1.2–1.3 mm, indurate, pale, glabrous, shiny, with a membranous rhachilla extension, 3.3–3.5 mm long, beyond the upper anthecium. <i>Caryopsis</i> ovoid, 2.6–3 × 1.1–1.2 mm, hilum punctiform, embryo 1/3 the length of the caryopsis.</p><p><b>Distribution and habitat:</b> —Species endemic to India, where it has been only found in the typical locality on deciduous forests.</p><p><b>Note:</b> — <i>Panicum fischeri</i> is easily distinguished by the presence of a conspicuous rhachilla extension beyond the upper anthecium.</p><p><b>Specimens examined:</b> — INDIA.
