| contents | <p>Background:<br>Arista Lakshana is described by different acharayas in Ayurveda in different sections. In both Bhela and Charaka Samhita, Indriya Sthana discusses in detail on Arista Lakshana. Acharya Sushruta and Vagbhata have described the same in Suthra - Sthana and Sharira- Stana. Physicians have to keep a close eye on the symptoms of the patients in order to evaluate the mortality and near-death experience. Varna, Sparsha and Gandha are some of the main Arista Lakshana that are evaluated<br>Objectives:<br>• To document the fatal signs and symptoms related to Varna and Sparsha in critically ill individuals from available literature.<br>• To evaluate the clinical relevance and rationality of the observed findings based on classical and contemporary medical understanding.<br>• To analyze the association between Varna- and Sparsha-related Arista Lakshana and patient mortality.<br>• To categorize and analyze the documented Varna and Sparsha-related Arista Lakshana according to the physiological systems involved in their manifestation.<br>Method:<br>A systematic literature review was performed based on the PRISMA framework. A total of 20 relevant articles were used. PubMed and Science Direct were considered for the study.<br>Results:<br>Ayurveda is one of the ancient and established sciences wherein the treatment of multiple diseases has been proposed. Ayurveda as practiced by Acharya Charaka, Susrutha and other prominent acharayas exhibited immense knowledge and have predicted the outcomes based on symptoms. The Varna, Sparsha, Gandha and other factors were effectively checked and predictions made by the Acharya’s is even effective today. Thus, the various Samhita’s host potent knowledge which is of immense importance to mankind.<br>Conclusion:<br>The Ayurvedic knowledge is very essential for mankind and abstracts from these texts need to be tested more properly for efficient advancement of science. The study reiterates the fact that more clinical trials are needed to confirm the observations.<br>Keywords: Arista Lakshana, Varna, Sparsha, Prognosis, Ayurveda, Critical illness, Purushashrita signs, Clinical relevance.</p> |
