contents <p><strong><span>Résumé</span></strong></p> <p><span>La croissance urbaine rapide constitue l’un des principaux facteurs de dégradation de la qualité de l’air dans les villes africaines. Cette étude analyse la relation entre les mutations de l’espace urbain et la répartition des polluants atmosphériques dans le grand Nokoué au sud du Bénin, entre 2019 et 2025. L’approche méthodologique repose sur l’exploitation des images satellitaires Landsat OLI pour la cartographie de l’occupation du sol et des données Sentinel-5p pour pour l’estimation des concentrations du dioxyde d’azote (NO₂) et de monoxyde de carbone (CO), moyennées sur la saison sèche (janvier à mars). La dynamique urbaine a été évalué à l’aide de l’indice de vitesse de l’urbanisme (IVU), calculée entre 2019 et 2025, révélant des dynamiques contrastées selon les communes : Ouidah (95,7%), Abomey-Calavi (92,3%), Sèmè-Podji (81,3%) et Porto-Novo (8,2%) enregistrent une forte croissance de la superficie bâtie, tandis que Cotonou présente une évolution très limitée (1,0%), traduisant une saturation spatiale. Les concentrations de NO₂ et de CO sont issues des données Sentinel-5p, avec des moyennes comprises entre 2,52 et 2,86 µg/m³ pour le NO₂ et entre 1 840,43 et 1 900,88 µg/m³ pour le CO. Il ressort de l’ensemble des analyses que la pollution atmosphérique dans le grand Nokoué est fortement influencée par l’intensité de l’urbanisation. Ces résultats soulignent la pertinence des outils géospatiaux pour l’étude et la gestion des phénomènes environnementaux complexes. This study analyzes the relationship between urban spatial transformations and the distribution of atmospheric pollutants in the grand Nokoué, southern Benin, between 2019 and 2025. The methodological approach is based on the use of Landsat OLI satellite imagery for land use mapping and Sentinel-5p data for estimating nitrogen dioxide (NO₂) and carbon monoxide (CO) concentrations, averaged over the dry season (January-March). Urban dynamics were assessed using the Urbanization Speed Index (USI), calculated between 2019 and 2025, revealing contrasting trends among municipalities: Ouidah (95,7%), Abomey-Calavi (92,3%), Sèmè-Podji (81,3%) and Porto-Novo (8,2%) show significant growth in built-up areas, whereas Cotonou exhibits very limited change (1,0%), reflecting spatial saturation. NO₂ and CO concentrations estimated from Sentinel-5P data (dry season) range from 2.52 to 2.86 µg/m³ for NO₂ and from 1,840.43 to 1,900.88 µg/m³ for CO. Overall, the results indicate that atmospheric pollution in the grand Nokoué is strongly influenced by the intensity of urbanization.
