SEE is formulated here not as a model, hypothesis, or constitutive theory, but as a </span></span><span><span lang="EN-GB">foundational axiom</span></span><span><span lang="EN-GB"> concerning the admissibility of static states in saturated granular systems under gravity.</span></span></p> <p><span><span lang="EN-GB">The axiom postulates the existence of a scalar energetic state level such that a configuration is statically admissible if and only if it corresponds to a local minimum of this state level under admissible variations. This statement precedes stress-based mechanics, effective stress concepts, and loading-path arguments, which are shown to operate only as conditional theorems within the domain of energetically admissible states defined by SEE.</span></span></p> <p><span><span lang="EN-GB">The publication fixes what SEE is and what it is not, derives the necessary consequences that follow from its axiomatic formulation, and explicitly defines the criteria by which the axiom can be meaningfully challenged or refuted. It is intended to prevent category errors and unbounded discussions at inappropriate logical levels, and to reposition the debate on liquefaction and stability toward fundamental questions of state admissibility and energetic ordering.</span></span></p> <p><span><span lang="EN-GB">Although motivated by geotechnical problems, the scope of the statement is physical rather than disciplinary. The paper explicitly invites scrutiny from the physics community at the axiomatic level, while remaining independent of specific models, experiments, or constitutive assumptions.</span></span></p> |
