| contents |
The healing process of wounds is a complicated thrust of intercellular and molecular events designed to repair the skin barrier. Conditions such as diabetes, increasing age, malnutrition, and infections can cause wounds to develop into chronic skin sores that refuse to heal. This phenomenon is a major issue in healthcare. Physiological alterations during the healing process, such as hemostasis, inflammation, proliferation, and maturation, as well as recovery-modifying factors, are also addressed. It addresses different categories of wounds, treatment regimens, and assessment tools such as NERDS, STONEES, and TIMES. The review looks at how traditional wound dressings stack up against new technologies like hydrogels, smart hydrogels, scaffolds, nanoparticles, coacervates, and advanced drug delivery systems. It also highlights cutting-edge approaches like stem cell therapy, genetic therapy, nanotechnology, 3D bioprinting, AI-based tools, and bioactive compounds, emphasizing their potential to accelerate healing, enhance tissue regeneration, and provide more personalized treatments. In addition, the review considers complementary therapies involving herbs and nutrients. Ultimately, it demonstrates the need for a patient-centered strategy that blends innovative technologies with conventional methods to achieve more effective wound care and improved outcomes.
|
