| contents |
Medical tourism has emerged as a significant segment of the global healthcare and tourism industries, with India positioning itself as a prominent destination for international patients. Understanding the factors that influence destination choice is critical for sustaining competitiveness in this rapidly growing sector. The present study examines the key determinants influencing destination choice in medical tourism with special reference to India, using primary data collected from international medical tourists. The study adopts a quantitative research approach and is based on responses obtained from 120 international medical tourists through a structured questionnaire. Descriptive and inferential statistical tools such as percentage analysis, mean score ranking, correlation analysis, regression analysis, and factor analysis were employed to analyze the data. The findings reveal that cost of treatment and quality of medical care are the most influential factors in destination selection. Service quality dimensions, particularly medical staff competence, nursing care, and post-treatment support, were found to have a strong positive relationship with patient satisfaction. Regression results indicate that patient satisfaction significantly influences revisit intention, highlighting its role in fostering destination loyalty. Factor analysis identified two dominant dimensions underlying destination choice: medical–economic value and service–tourism support, emphasizing the integrated nature of decision-making in medical tourism. The study concludes that India’s competitiveness in medical tourism can be strengthened by balancing cost advantages with high-quality medical services, efficient service delivery, and supportive tourism infrastructure. The findings offer practical insights for healthcare providers, medical tourism facilitators, and policymakers seeking to enhance India’s position as a preferred medical tourism destination.
|
