Anchored on Erikson’s Psychosocial Development Theory, particularly the stage of ego integrity versus despair, the research examined how teachers nearing retirement reflect on their professional journey and prepare for the transition from active service to retirement.</p> <p>A convergent parallel mixed methods approach was employed to gather both quantitative and qualitative data from five retirable teachers. Quantitative data were collected through a structured survey questionnaire measuring job satisfaction, well-being, and retirement preparedness. Qualitative data were obtained through an open-ended questionnaire that captured personal narratives, career challenges, motivations, memorable experiences, and perceptions of retirement. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics such as mean and composite mean, while qualitative responses underwent thematic analysis. The findings from both data sets were then integrated to provide a comprehensive interpretation.</p> <p>Results revealed that retirable teachers demonstrated high levels of job satisfaction, well-being, and retirement preparedness. Qualitative findings showed that their professional journeys were marked by dedication, resilience, and a strong sense of purpose. Teachers expressed fulfillment in their careers, gratitude for the relationships they built, and optimism about retirement. Despite encountering challenges such as workload and professional demands, they maintained commitment to teaching and derived motivation from their students, colleagues, and personal values. Participants also emphasized their desire to leave a meaningful legacy and to guide younger educators.</p> <p>The integration of findings indicated strong convergence between numerical results and personal narratives, suggesting that teachers are approaching retirement with fulfillment, emotional readiness, and a positive outlook. The study highlights the importance of institutional support, recognition programs, and mentorship opportunities to ensure a meaningful and dignified transition for retiring teachers.</p> <p>This research contributes to the growing body of literature on teacher retirement and professional well-being in the Philippine context. It also provides practical insights for school administrators and policymakers in developing programs that support teachers as they conclude their professional service and transition into a new stage of life.</p> <p><strong>Keywords:</strong><br>retirable teachers; lived experiences; job satisfaction; well-being; retirement preparedness; mixed methods research; teacher retirement; educational leadership; Philippines</p> </div> </div> </div> </div> <div> </div> <div> <div> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> <div> </div> </div> <div> <div> <div> </div> </div> <div> <div> <div> <div> </div> <div> <div> </div> <div></div> <div> <div> <div> <div> <div> <p> </p> </div> </div> </div> <div><span></span></div> <div> <div> <div> <div> <div> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> <div> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> </div> <div> </div> </div> |
