| contents | <p><em><span>After the tremendous surge of participation by Indian women in freedom movement, it was after 73<sup>rd</sup> constitution amendment in 1992 that women returned into the local political sphere in large numbers. This amendment provided for a minimum 33% reservation for women in local self governments. Many States have over the years increased this to 50%. </span></em><em><span>Women's reservation in politics empowers women at various levels. It not only encourages more</span></em><em><span> </span></em><em><span>women to participate in politics but also inspires women to take on leadership roles in other</span></em><em><span> </span></em><em><span>sectors. </span></em><em><span>The present study is an attempt to know the ground realities of women’s reservation in political decision-making with respect to elected women through Panchayati Raj Institution. </span></em><em><span>Sample consisted of elected women representatives from the Ramgarh district of Jharkhand.</span></em><em><span> </span></em><em><span>Purposive sampling technique was adopted for selecting the sample from Mandu block. The tool used for obtaining information was Interview and Questionnaire. The elected women are not always treated with due respect. Many elected women complained that their suggestions were not considered seriously nor were they consulted while decisions were being made. Some felt that their views were ignored only because they are women. At times they were pressurized by their husbands and the male representatives of other Panchayats to approve the decisions made by them. Therefore, it is very important to analyze the ground realities of women reservation in Political decision-making in Panchayati Raj institutions as well. This study also tried to find out the factors influencing the decisions making of women elected representatives.</span></em></p> <p> </p> |
