| contents | <p><strong><em><span>Abstract:</span></em></strong></p> <p><em><span><span> </span>Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is not only remembered as a great warrior but also as an able administrator and visionary ruler. His model of governance was based on efficiency, justice, decentralization and welfare of the people. Even though his administration belonged to the seventeenth century, many of its principles remain relevant in contemporary Indian administration. This paper examines the key features of Shivaji Maharaj’s governance model and analyses their relevance in modern India.This study focuses on important aspects such as decentralized administration, accountability of officials, people-centric welfare policies, ethical leadership and the justice system. Shivaji Maharaj established a strong administrative structure through the Ashta Pradhan and ensured that local administration functioned effectively. He emphasized honesty and discipline among officials and protected farmers and common people through fair revenue policies. His governance also reflected inclusiveness, religious tolerance and respect for women, which strengthened social harmony.Using a descriptive and analytical method, this paper relies on secondary sources such as books, journals, and educational material. The study further connects Shivaji Maharaj’s governance model remains relevant today as a source of inspiration for ethical leadership, decentralised administration and good governance in contemporary India.</span></em></p> <p> </p> |
