| contents |
This article examines the spatial patterns of regional transport centralization in the Republic of Azerbaijan using the example of the Baku and Absheron-Khizi economic regions. These regions represent the country’s core economic, demographic, and social area and function as the principal transport hub at both national and international levels. The study is based on official statistical data for 2025 provided by the State Statistical Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan and applies a combination of general scientific and specialized economic-geographical research methods, including time-series analysis, mathematical-statistical analysis, and regional-geographical analysis.

The results demonstrate a high degree of transport concentration in the Baku and Absheron-Khizi economic regions, which account for a dominant share of national freight and passenger transportation, vehicle stock, and public transport operations. The findings confirm the formation of a centralized transport core characterized by strong agglomeration effects, high mobility demand, and intensive freight and passenger flows. At the same time, excessive transport centralization generates structural challenges, including congestion, infrastructural pressure, and uneven regional accessibility. The study highlights the need for integrated transport and regional planning policies aimed at mitigating the negative effects of spatial concentration while ensuring balanced territorial development across the country.
|
