| contents |
Odontogenic submandibular phlegmon is a severe, rapidly progressive infection of the deep cervical fascial spaces, originating from untreated or inadequately treated dental infections. It is characterized by diffuse inflammatory infiltration without clear abscess formation and carries a high risk of life-threatening complications, including airway obstruction, descending mediastinitis, and sepsis. Early diagnosis and aggressive multidisciplinary management are essential to reduce morbidity and mortality. This review summarizes current evidence regarding epidemiology, pathophysiology, clinical presentation, diagnostic approach, and therapeutic strategies for odontogenic submandibular phlegmon.
|
