contents
This paper presents a highly scalable, active metamaterial hull coating designed to optimize boundary layer fluid dynamics in commercial maritime logistics. By embedding asymmetrical piezoelectric nodes within a durable fluoropolymer-infused polyurethane-urea elastomer matrix, the hull emits a synchronized, marine-mammal safe phononic resonance (800 kHz to 1 MHz). This high-frequency acoustic field artificially lowers the local vapor pressure of the adjacent fluid, generating a partial micro-cavitation layer across the wetted surface area. Empirical models demonstrate a stable cavitation effect at standard commercial cruising speeds, resulting in up to a 50% reduction in hydrodynamic skin friction. This architecture provides a transformative increase in transit efficiency, complete acoustic bio-fouling deterrence without toxic biocides, and a sub-6-month capital return cycle for global maritime fleets.
