•
Antibiotic resistance has emerged as a major global public health concern, threatening the effectiveness of existing antimicrobial therapies and increasing morbidity, mortality, and healthcare costs worldwide. The rapid evolution of resistant pathogens, coupled with the slow pace of new antibiotic discovery, necessitates innovative pharmacological strategies to combat infectious diseases. Next-generation antimicrobial drug development focuses on novel targets, advanced drug delivery systems, antimicrobial peptides, bacteriophage therapy, immunomodulators, and combination therapies to overcome resistance mechanisms. Additionally, advances in genomics, artificial intelligence, and high-throughput screening technologies are accelerating the identification of new antimicrobial candidates. This review highlights current challenges in antibiotic resistance, emerging pharmacological approaches, and future perspectives for developing effective next-generation reminder antimicrobial therapies.
