- <div> <p><em><span>This study explored strategies and technologies for mitigating environmental risks in Nigeria’s oil industry to enhance sustainable operations, with a focus on the Niger Delta region. Using a mixed-method approach, primary data were collected from key stakeholders—including oil companies, government agencies, and local communities—while secondary data were sourced from policy reports, industry records, and environmental assessments. The analysis revealed that oil companies (40%) and government agencies (30%) bear the greatest responsibility for environmental risk mitigation, yet weak collaboration and accountability undermine effective action. Key environmental risks identified include oil spills, gas flaring, and water contamination, which persist despite technological initiatives and policy reforms. The study further found that while advanced technologies and best practices are acknowledged by stakeholders, their practical adoption remains limited due to underfunding, inadequate regulatory enforcement, weak institutional capacity, and socio-political instability. Overall, the findings highlight a significant disconnect between policy commitments and operational outcomes, emphasizing the need for integrated strategies, stronger governance, and long-term investment in sustainable energy alternatives to achieve meaningful risk reduction. The study contributes empirical evidence to guide policymakers, industry practitioners, and communities in improving environmental management and sustainability in Nigeria’s oil sector.</span></em></p> </div>
