| contents | <p>The ability to communicate effectively is an important skill for scientists, as it is required to share scientific findings, to promote critical thinking and to foster scientific discussion. Despite its importance, science communication training is lacking at the undergraduate level. In this study, we have used a collaborative‐ learning approach to investigate whether simulated scientific conferences are a good method for improving the scientific communication training of STEM students. The activity consisted in a real simulation of a biomedical scientific conference, where students had to characterize selected genetic diseases or developmental disorders from a genetic, cellular and histological perspective.<br>Our work shows that simulated scientific conferences create synergies between different areas of knowledge and actively engage students in science communication.</p> <p> </p> <p>KEYWORDS: cell biology, tissue biology, scientific communication.</p> |
