- The cornerstone of India's juvenile justice system is the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015 (JJ Act, 2015), which represents a rehabilitative paradigm based on constitutional requirements under Articles 15(3), 39(e)-(f), 45, and 47. It replaced the Juvenile Justice Act, 2000 after the Nirbhaya event in 2012 and promotes child-centric adjudication above retributive punishment. It is in line with UNCRC criteria such as the Beijing Rules, 1985.
